17.10.2011: Artemyi Troitsky wins major Finnish music prize
The winner of the Tampere
Music Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Music Business is the celebrated
Russian music industry leader.
Prize to be awarded at the Music & Media Finland
2011 event on Saturday, 22nd October.
One of today's most influential figures in Russian popular culture and a world-renowned music journalist, Artemyi Troitsky has been recognized by the Tampere Music Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Music Business. The award will be presented in Tampere Hall at the Music & Media Finland Industry Awards Gala on Saturday, 22nd October.
The award is an international music industry accolade that celebrates significant contributions in the fields of development and progress. The award was presented for the first time in 2010. Troitsky had a key role in the rise of alternative rock in the 1980s and, as a journalist, he brought the phenomenon to international attention. Since then he has been active in various media and concert promotions, as well as with his own record label. Artemyi Troitsky has also helped a number of Finnish bands develop their careers in Russia.
"I am delighted to receive the Tampere Music
Award. I have received many awards for my music and media work, but none of
these awards have come from the Russian government. The most important prize I have
received so far is the title of Honorary Citizen of Udmurtia. Taking into
account that Udmurtia is located in the Finno-Ugric area in the east, I see this
is a clear link to the Tampere Music Award.
I am also glad that, in receiving this prize, I stand
beside previous recipient Rein Lang, an old Estonian friend and comrade in some
of my Soviet-era indie-music adventures. I am happy that my prize comes from
Finland because I am a big fan of Finnish music and I have worked hard to
promote it in Russia: managing licensing, organizing concerts and festivals,
and working on radio promotion. It seems to me that this award is deserved!"
commented winner Artemyi Troitsky.
The Music & Media Finland 2011 event is held in Tampere from 20th-23rd October. The whole of the Finnish music industry is represented along with over 100 international professionals. The event will culminate in Industry Awards Gala, a special showcase of the best in the industry, where domestic professionals have been awarded for the past 22 years.
The Tampere Music Award has been awarded to an international icon for the second time. The award of the prize is part of the City of Tampere and Music & Media Finland's shared strategy of enhancing the Finnish music & media industry's international competitiveness by creating a world-class event in the heart of Finland, which supports the positioning of Finland as a business hub for music industry professionals in the Russia and Baltics region.
Award presented by Deputy Mayor of the City of Tampere, Olli-Poika Parviainen
For Tampere, the prize award represents an opportunity
to highlight the city's domestic and international investments and achievements
in the creative sector. The award will be presented by Olli-Poika Parviainen.
He was recently appointed as Deputy Major and is responsible for education,
trade and quality of life in Tampere. According to Parviainen, Music &
Media Finland represents exactly the kind of creative sector of the economy,
which the City of Tampere wants to support. Music & Media Finland's vision
to grow international business in Russia and the Baltic markets supports the
strategy of the City of Tampere and Finnish foreign trade policy objectives. "The
music sector has been shaken by strong structural changes, and we want to do
our part to enable success stories when it is still possible. Music & Media
Finland is an excellent tool for this," says Parviainen.
